Tilda Swinton is hardly in need of an introduction – mostly known as a Hollywood star since winning an Oscar in 2007 for Best Supporting Actress in ‘Michael Clayton’, and gracing the covers of countless women’s magazines ever since, she’s nonetheless retained her fiercely independent spirit that first got her noticed when she began working with British cult filmmaker Derek Jarman in the 1980s. And let it be known that, as she’s devoting her time to countless projects on- and off-screen, Hollywood seems to be the last thing on her mind these days.
With mono.kultur, Tilda Swinton talked about the promise of cinema, the heritage of Derek Jarman, and why she is really not an actress.
The issue features some exclusive personal photography by Ms. Swinton herself, which you are permitted to take out and put up in your kitchen if you really must.

“An arty interview magazine focusing on the work of a single artist might not sound like a riot, but the Berlin quarterly mono.kultur is a real discovery. Recent subjects include Dries Van Noten, indie actress Tilda Swinton and the ever-fabulous Miranda July, whose issue came with an accompanying poster.”
